Welcome to the ACTS Website
Celtic Cross

Formed in 1990, as Scotland’s national ecumenical instrument, Action of Churches Together in Scotland (ACTS) brings together nine denominations in Scotland who share a desire for:

  • Greater oneness between churches, as Jesus prayed, ’that they all may be one’ (John 17.21)
  • A growth of understanding and common life between churches
  • Unified action in proclaiming and responding to the gospel in the whole of life.

In its work ACTS seeks to enable the Scottish churches in their common life.

It encourages and resources encounters between them in which each participant learns from the other, where difference is explored and respected and where division is healed.

Racial Justice Sunday : 12th September 2010

Launch of Minority Ethnic Churches Together in Scotland (MECTIS)

A special ecumenical Service is to be held in Wellington Church, University Avenue, Glasgow, on September 12th.  The Service will mark the work of the Churches to promote racial justice and will also celebrate the launching of MECTIS – the organisation which will help the new minority ethnic churches in Scotland to work together and to develop closer links with the denominations which have operated in Scotland for many years.

The Service will have international and national support.  It will be attended by national leaders of the major denominations in Scotland, who will extend a welcome to the leaders of MECTIS and the members of their congregations, and by Members of the Executive Committee of the World Council of Churches. The sermon is to be preached by a member of the World Council of Churches' Executive.

Prayer for Today

Risen Christ,
as you journeyed with the two who travelled the Emmaus Road,
travel with us on our journey of faith.in our encounters on the way
give us compassion to listen to the other’s story
give us patience to explain what may seem obvious to ourselves
give us courage to make ourselves vulnerable towards the other,
so that others may encounter You through us
and we may rediscover You through them.

Amen
